WunderTax Review: A User-Friendly Tax Software That Makes Doing Taxes Easy

WunderTax is a tax software that was designed to make filing taxes easy and convenient in Germany.

The WunderTax software is available in English and German. WunderTax is a tax software that can be used by anyone. It takes care of all the necessary calculations and provides the user with a detailed tax return form. The software is easy to use and has an intuitive interface.

Wundertax provides its users with a number of benefits, such as:

  • Ease of use – Wundertax is easy to use and can be installed without any hassle
  • Cost efficiency – The monthly fee for using Wundertax is affordable
  • Fast processing – The process of using wundertax takes very less time when compared to other methods like hiring an accountant or visiting the IRS office

In this article, we will review what WunderTax is and what makes it different from other tax software out there.

What is Wundertax?

Wundertax is a web-based software with which individuals can submit their annual tax returns without having to see a tax advisor. For expatriates, such websites are helpful in navigating the exciting world of German bureaucracy.
Wundertax is in both German and English which means you can independently figure it out without needing that one friend you turn to for all your translations.

When did I start using Wundertax?

I think I was one of the very early adopters of Wundertax. At the time I was a student and it was called Studentensteuererklarung.de. I believe they still run on this domain to target the student demographic. Later it was renamed to appeal to a bigger audience.

Ease of use

You can of course submit everything in an evening but the reality for me was, I spent days trying to understand everything and going through my bank account for costs I could get back from the taxman. Needless to say, Wundertax is very simple to use and self-explanatory.

What I didn’t like

There are a few things I didn’t like so much. That was having to go to do the PostIdent at the post office before I could submit my returns. A few years down the line, there are other options to verify yourself. It is not the worst thing to have to do PostIdent. Everyone who moves to Germany has had to do it a few times.

Their return calculations were also a bit off. When I got my tax refunds a few weeks later it was a few euros short of what Wundertax had forecasted. That’s neither a dealbreaker because the tax officers can use their discretion when processing your tax declaration. Also I was happy to be getting back some money as a student

How much does it cost?

That’s how much it cost. 34.95 for filing your tax in one year. Then you have the option to pay for 3 Tax declarations for 89.95 or 119.95 for 4 years. Obviously a commitment.

Number of yearsPrice
1 year34.95 Euros
3 years89.95 Euros
4 years119.95 Euros

Would I recommend Wundertax to others?

Yes, I would. I have recommended it to a few friends and they are quite happy with it. I think it simplifies filing your tax returns especially for the working class with one employer and students. What you pay for the software is quite reasonable and included in your tax refunds.

Do I still use Wundertax?

No, I don’t. For the past two years, I have been using SteuerWeb. It’s not in English at the moment. I like a few features better than Wundertax even though it is so simple to use. I explained why in an earlier article about income taxes. I will still like to try other software. I am considering Smartsteuer now. It should not be so different from Wundertax but I will build my opinions after I have used it. I will write about my experience when I do.

Conclusion

If you are new in town or do not speak german, I will definitely recommend Wundertax. They provide helpful tips while you are filling in your data to help you maximize your tax refunds. Here are some other alternatives in English.
